RCAA Update - Dec 24th 2009

Fraters,

On behalf of the Rho Chapter Alumni Association (RCAA) Officers, I would like to wish you and yours a Happy Holiday season.

It was great to see those of you who were able to join us in Morgantown for Homecoming weekend. I think that I can speak for everyone in attendance when I say that a great time was had by all.

For those unable to join us, we kicked off the weekend's activities with an Alumni Association funded barbecue at the brand new TKE house on High Street, immediately followed by our bi-annual meeting and beers at Frater Justin Byers' P.967 bar, De Lazy Lizard.

At the time of the meeting, the officers and Justin Byers shared that the house was 99% completed - the only unfinished element being the basement, which needed to be dry-walled in order to gain a full occupancy permit from the city. I am happy to announce, that thanks to your generous donations, we were able to finish the dry-wall in the basement, and allow the active chapter to fully enjoy the new house without fear of being evicted by the fire marshal.

Due to the generous donations, we have raised $3,000 towards our short-term goal of $5,000 for the housing funds which, among other things, allowed RCAA to provide chairs and tables for the active chapter room. The benevolence of the alumni has been truly amazing, due to your kindness we were also able to raise $2,500 for the Rho Chapter Scholarship fund.

I want to give a special 'Thank you' to all of the RCAA members who were able to make this happen!

Updated RCAA Membership

The RCAA officers, namely Matt Brady and Dan Long have been hard at work registering the organization as 501c3 non-profit with the IRS. This will allow all donations to be tax deductible. We are working to finalize the process and hope to have this status by early next year.

Once we are able to achieve 501c3 status we will work with Justin Byers to develop detailed investment opportunities for shareholders in the TKE house as mentioned in the meeting. More to come soon.

Finally, the RCAA is planning a winter Alumni get together which will be scheduled for the WVU vs. Seton Hall home basketball game on February 20th. A great excuse to make the trek to Morgantown to watch the #6 Mountaineers at the Coliseum, and catch up with old friends. Keep your eyes open for more details, such as ticket prices and TKE Hotel information.

WVU Homecoming - Nov 1 2009

Homecoming 2009, the Mountaineers won a nail-biting game against UConn and Rho Chapter TKE Alumni were there to celebrate.

Friday night, Alumni got to view the NEW TKE house and enjoyed a BBQ in the parking lot. then we moved to Da Lizard on High Street for the semi-annual RCAA meeting and post-meeting social event. The meeting highlighted the inauguration of the TKE house, the recent RCAA purchase of meeting room chairs (75), and tables for the active chapter, our short-term fundraising goals of finishing the house chapter room, and our longer-term goal of purchasing the house. RCAA thanked brother and TKE house owner/builder Justin Byers by presenting him with a 10-foot plaque reading "The House That Byers Built".

Saturday, the tailgate was moved to "the Beanery" parking lot to avoid University restrictions. Apologies to alumni who searched the Blue Lot in search of TKEs.

New TKE House - October 19th 2009

Updated pictures. Looks like the outside is pretty much finished. They still need to put the roof over the porch on the front and the roof over the fire escape in the back. Won't be done until Thanksgiving break. The concrete driveway will be poured over Thanksgiving break as well.

New TKE House - September 12th 2009

Work is almost completed on the new TKE House under construction at 692 N. High Street! Frater Justin Byers, P.967, has been working diligently on 4-level, 12,000 sq. ft., 33 single bedroom facility, each with it's own bathroom and heat/ac units. The top 3 levels will be living space while the bottom level will have a chapter room / common area, bathrooms and a kitchen.

The house will be 8 feet wider than the old house and about as deep but taller. The parking lot is approximately the same size. The first floor common areas will not be developed in this initial phase, but with alumni donations, will contain a chapter room, kitchen, laundry room and a separate TV + party room. For the start of the 2009-10 school year, the 33 residents are staying in pre-arranged university housing until construction is complete.

Alumni Association Facebook Group - June 15th 2009

Today we have launched a facebook group to open another portal that allows us all to reconnect with the Fraternity and our fellow Fraters. If you could join the group by following http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=96761116989 and invite any of our Fraternity Brothers who may not get these emails, we can expand our membership and increase participation at all of our alumni events.

Build Your Family Tree - Updated Sep. 27th, 2009

We are trying complete our family tree and history Rho Chapter Family History, if your name is on the list at the bottom of the family history page or you know someone's big brother and little brother that is on the list or you keep in touch with someone who is one the list, help us out and e-mail me the information at familyhistory@rhotkealumni.org. We only need to connect 101 more fraters till we complete our family history from today back to re-colonization.

Gary Allen - Updated June 9, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Gary Lee Allen Jr., P777. Frater Gary, 42, of Greensburg, PA, died unexpectedly on Saturday June 6, 2009. He attended West Virginia University (through 1998) and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School. He graduated from Hempfield High School class of 1985.

Gary was born January 2nd, 1967 in DuBois, PA the son of Gary Lee Allen Sr and Helen Jean (Gula) Allen. His parents, and his paternal and maternal grandfathers preceded him in death. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved to fish. He is survived by his brother James Patrick Allen and his wife, Missy, and two nephews Jake and R.J. all of Beaver county.

Gary made people happy, and TKE brothers who knew him will remember his smiling face. He was full of life and love for family and friends. We will miss him dearly, and remember him forever.

House Fundraising Effort - Updated June 9, 2009

Our beloved residence at 692 N. High Street was leveled last fall. Construction has begun on a new house, and there is a more short-term need for when brothers move in. The more immediate need is to purchase tables and chairs for the chapter room in the new TKE house this fall. Check out the House page for pictures of new house construction and fundraising details.
